Moving onto Big Boy Food

Jonah has moved on to big boy food. After a few months of pureed food, Jonah is now ready for more of a challenge. I first noticed that he was ready for something a little more advanced when he would mimic my chewing motions during dinner. Then, he began to grab for out food. So, we started him off on the same hard solids as Cairo- what we like to call nummies.
Jonah started with nummies split into little pieces. Less than a day later he had not only moved on to whole pieces, but he was trying to feed himself. It only took a few days for Jonah to conquer the art of feeding himself nummies. Now, more nummies make it into his mouth and less end up in his lap. Jonah can really put them away. One minute his tray is full of them, the next minute they are gone. It's a good thing we have Cairo around, she makes sure his tray is nice and stocked with them.
Due to her sensitive gag reflex, it took Cairo a while to get the hang of eating solid food. Jonah, however, has taken to it easily. After nummies, the next challenge was bananas. A slippery endeavour, but being one of his favorite foods, very worthwhile. Then there were carrots...

Since Jonah does have a huge love for nummies, I set up a trail of nummies to get him to scoot forward. It worked, but it took a while because he stopped to enjoy each one.
