Oh, Jonah
My little J Bear makes me smile. I wish I had the ability to capture little sound clips of Cairo and Jonah's laughter, comments, and mispronunciations. Jonah's "Rs" sound like "Ws" and drops "Ss" at the start of a work if it is followed by another consonant except for the letter "L." It's 'top instead of stop, 'tool instead of stool, (my favorite) 'quash instead of squash, and wabbit instead of rabbit, etc. He can say slip, slime, and sail just fine. I don't do a good enough job at writing things down, but here are a few things via my Jonah bear-
Looking through a page in his practice book
J: Who drew this picture?... oh, it's probably me cause its got 'cribbles.
Jonah mumbled something to me
Me: Jonah did you just call me a grumpy troll?
Jonah: No, Mommy. I called you a grumpy OLD troll.
Probably my favorite things he said all summer...
Jonah and Cairo playing in the backyard, running across the grass. Breathing heavily from the exertion, Jonah says to Cairo, "Let's play Princess and Dragon. I'll be the princess and you can be the dragon. K, Sissy?" I love that he wants to be a princess, too.

The 4th
Another great 4th of July for the books. We spent the morning at the Plaza with Katie B and the kids, lunch with Erik's parents, went home for naps, and ended the day at Nick and Kyoko's for fireworks.
The following sequence of pictures is dubbed- "Gymnastics on the Plaza."

So, here we are at nap time. We go to wake Jonah up so that we can do fireworks and we find him like this. Where's your pants buddy?

Summer Walks
Loving our summer walks at the Marsh with Katie B and the kiddos. After a walk around the big pond, a few rocks thrown into the mud and water, identifying birds, and admiring flowers a picnic was in order. I love our summers!

Summer Swimmin'
We signed the kids up for the swim classes at HSU. It goes Monday through Friday for two weeks. This is the second set of swim lessons we've attempted this year. I say attempted because Jonah is a Swim Lesson Drop Out. The first set of lessons was a no-go. This time around though we made Jonah stick with it. He mostly sat on the step at first...
Cairo was great, though. Her confidence in the water has gotten so much better. She is even able to swim a little on her own. I know that if she fell in, she could probably keep her head above water enough to reach the side of the pool. She's not a swimmer yet, but she's close.
As time went on, Jonah went a little deeper in the water...
...and Cairo got better at floating on her own. (She was lucky enough to be the only kid in her class several times... so she got a half hour of one-on-one lessons.)
By the end of the first week, Jonah was happy playing on his own on the steps. On.His.Own. You see, Jonah's problem wasn't the water or the idea of learning to swim. His problem was that he was surrounded by strangers and Mommy and Daddy weren't there to hold his hand. Every time his very nice teacher came over to him, Jonah gave him the look like "you better not even think about touching me" and scrambled away as best as he could. Once and a while his teacher was able to snatch him away from the step before he knew what was happening. Jonah would give in and cooperate, but gladly return to his step at the end.
