Singing

I am constantly singing to Cairo the silliest songs. I make them up, I add words to songs that never had words, and I change the words to song that already exist. Cairo seems to love it, though... she doesn't even mind that I can't sing in tune. Lately, she has started to sing along. One song that seems to bring a smile to her face the fastest is my rendition to "how much is that doggy in the window" called "how much is that BABY in the MIRROR."

Cairo's Aunt Heather had a birthday on the 12th and Cairo helped celebrate by singing Happy Birthday with her mom. Maybe she will grow up to be a singer.

Boing, Boing

Cairo is big enough now to finally enjoy her jumper chair. She doesn't last for long periods of time in the chair, yet; but, she does enjoy having her toys in front of her. The bouncy chair also gives her the chance to stand (one of her favorite things to do). I keep telling her that she shouldn't get too comfortable standing because she needs to crawl before I let her start walking.

Walk and Roll... and Dinseneyland, too

Cairo is as wiggly as always. In fact, Cairo doesn't seem to be happy UNLESS she is wiggly. Recently, she has become very interested in her feet. She tries to lean over to get close to them, then becomes a little unsure of her bent-in-half position, and begins to cry. Cairo continues to flail her hands around and grab onto objects but it is still very awkward. Her spacial awareness with her feet, though, is much better. She hits things right on and with intent. When she is laying in her back I put my hand out and she likes to push them away. Here are a few videos of her walking and attempting to roll over.




To celebrate my mom's birthday on the 6th, Cairo, Erik, my parents, and Heather went to Disneyland for the evening. We all have season passes to the park and we don't use them often enough. It was a wonderful time for Cairo to go to Disneyland for the first time. The weather was perfect- no more of this 105 degree weather- and the park wasn't too crowded. The first thing we did was take the official photo in front of the entrance to Disneyland. Next, we rushed over to Pirates of the Caribbean, my favorite ride and baby friendly, and took Cairo for her first ride ever. She was wide-eyed the entire time and very stimulated. We, then, went to the Tiki Room thinking that Cairo would like the music and bright birds and flowers. Instead, she got fussy. Luckily, it was the prefect place to discreetly nurse her. We got hungry and decided to eat Pot Roast at the Plaza Inn (yummy) and get good seats out in their patio for the AMAZING firework show Disney puts on every night. The whole park pretty much stops to see this show. Cairo fell asleep about 5 minutes before the show and did not move a muscle to the loud bangs and bright, flashing lights that surrounded us (literally- the fireworks surround the entire park!)

There are new babysitters in town. Today was Cairo's first day being watched by someone other then immediate family. My cousin Shauna and Aunt Brenda are watching Cairo two days a week. Erik and I are SO lucky to have family who can help us watch her. We can be sure that she is getting the very best care from people we absolutely trust.

Though Cairo is very "kick-back", she is definitely starting to take after her mom (me!). She now sleeps eight to nine hours straight at night (yes!)... something that I like to do as well. Also, Cairo has been talking up a storm. In the mornings, especially, she will sit there and talk and talk and talk. Here is jabber-jaws on the phone and here are some of her latest conversations...

She was been so out at night that I have had to wake her up for the past few days so that I can feed her.

P.S. We are at 11 weeks!

Cairo goes to the beach

Cairo went to the beach on Saturday evening for a picnic. It was a nice evening and about 20 degrees cooler than in Monrovia which was a welcome relief. Mom picked her outfit (move over Elton John.)

Thanks to Nick, we now know that we can post videos on this blog. We haven't taken lots of videos lately (we've been a little busy), but here is one that we took towards the beginning of August. It cracks me up every time I see it. Cairo is just staring at my friend Katie in what we dubbed "the turtle". Listen carefully and you will hear her coo.
