10 weeks!

At 10 weeks old, Cairo is just getting cuter and cuter... her personality is constantly getting more rounded and we are beginning to get a better idea of what she is going to look like (I am still hoping for freckles... and I think that I will get them!)

I have gone back to work and Cairo has been spending the last few days with her daddy. They have been having lots of interesting converasations with each other. They have talked about their hands and feet, they have practiced the alphabet and multiplication tables up to the tens, they have started for hours at the fan- watching it go 'round and 'round and' round, they have engaged in a staring contest- it was a tie, and they have had an all together good time. It is nice, though, to see that even though Cairo has had a great time with her dad, she is happy to see me when I get home. Nothing is better than her big smiles!

Cairo has just began to lean forward in her bouncy seat and when we are holding her. It seems as though she is trying to sit up... or just bend herself in half. While progress is being made there and in her bathwater splashing abilities, she seems to be taking a few steps back with tummy time. She hasn't been happy being put on her tummy and instead of trying to hold her head up or moving it to the side, she just lays face down. If there is a wrinkle, she makes out with it (or just licks it), but if it is smooth, she gets upseat. I am hoping that she doesn't skip the crawling stage... we are going to work on spending more time on our tummies...

I downloaded some pictures from our camera. Here are a few to share- 1) a picture of a picture- Mei and Cairo had this done a few weeks ago. 2) Guinness staring adoringly at Cairo during the LONG car ride home. 3) Cairo on the changing table (today) playing with a Lei her daddy gave her.

Cairo Framed and Driving Miss Cairo.

I was having fun with my camera phone while Cairo was asleep on me today. Here are some of the results.

Isn't she cute!

It's been a while...

Sorry, I have been remiss... life has been in full swing and I just haven't gotten around to updating the blog. Things are going to settle in, so I will be able to get back to updating this once or twice a week. To catch up with the past two weeks... Erik and I worked long and hard to finish the projects around the house and get it all cleaned up before we left for the summer. Work doesn't happen quite as fast as we would like with the baby, but Cairo comes first. We can deal with a little dust, out of place furniture, and half painted things when she's around. On Thursday, we took the long trip nack home. We left at about 8 am and drove into the driveway a little before midnight. The trip wasn't bad, though. We got the chance to stop and visit my Nana and Papa. Cairo was able to meet them on her way north for the summer, but it was only for about half an hour.

This past Friday, Cairo had her first set of shots at the doctor's office. While we were waiting she was all smiles and coos (she loves to talk and sounds like a purring kitten). Little did Cairo know that she was going to get three shots, two of which were very large and painful. She cried, as expected, and was fussy that evening. A little tylenol and a good night's sleep and Cairo was back to normal the next morning. Cairo stats as of the last appointment put her at 10 lb 9 oz with a wet diaper on and she is in the 25th precentile in weight, length, and headsize.

Cairo is still a wiggle-worm. She has been having a great time sucking on any fabric that makes it near her mouth. Like her cousin Mei, she likes to suck on her bib. In the bath last night, she was splashing around and laughing... she was much more active than I have seen her, yet, in the bath. She has also discovered her feet in the last two days or so. She looks at them, but hasn't tried to reach for them yet. One thing for sure, Cairo is a talker just like her mom. She seems to have the best conversations with her dad. She coos and coos and coos... and like I said before, she sounds like a purring kitten).

Cairo and Uncle Danny-

Today, I went back to work for the first time. Cairo spent the day with her dad and met me for lunch. Life is definitely going to be very different for us now... I will miss her lots!

P.S. We have several more pictures to post, but we are currently having technical problems downloading pictures with our camera and have to either get it fixed or get something to read our memory stick...

8 weeks

Eight weeks have passed... that means that we have only one more week up here in Northern California before we have to return to our lives down south- me back to work and Erik back to school and work. I am sad that I won't be able to spend my days with Cairo, but, as always, I am excited to get back to the job that I just adore. I feel confident that Cairo will be in goods hands while I am at work and I am sure that she will hardly miss me...

Erik has, shall I say, a differnt philosophy on picking out clothes to wear. While most people prefer to pick out clothes that color coordinate or match on some way, Erik picks out all of his favorite things and wears them... not matter what they look like. Fortuntely, most of the time these items look good together... sometimes they don't match as well. Erik decided to pick out Cairo's outfit on Monday. Notice the mismatched socks, hat, and onsie, as well as those cute shoes that are too big and not quite right for the warm weather...

Yesterday, Aunie Katie, Kyoko, Mei, Cairo, and I all went to the river in Blue Lake. Before going to the river, I had Cairo try on her beach wear... still a little big, but, oh, so cute!

The river here is very calm and shallow... kind of like a wide stream. The weather was warm, but there was a steady cool breeze with some larger gusts. Cairo cried the first time I out her feet in the cool water, but she quickly recovered and didn't seem to mind me doing it again. I guess that she just isn't used to cold water... instead, she enjoys her nice warm baths. Cairo and Mei both went down for a small nap and played with each other on the blanket. This is the ONLY picture I took while there... I am waiting to get some of the millions of pictures Auntie Katie took... I will try and post them here when I get them....

Cairo working her lungs out... her cry, much to the Erik's unhappiness, is getting much stronger and louder... more and more like mom every day.

Also, Cairo is taking a lot of interest in her new toys. She works really hard at batting them back and forth and keeps getting her hands inside the rings (as seen in the following picture). It is funny to watch her concentrate on hitting them. She furrows her brow and flails her hands and hits the toys over and over again.

The County Fair

Cairo helping me water...

Yesterday, the whole Dedini clan went to the Humboldt County Fair. Now, I have been up here almost every summer for the past 9 years and I had never quite made it to the fair until yesterday. We ate food, saw a high diving act, watched a guy perform on stage who thought he was funny (but wasn't), saw some swing dancing, watched a horse race (all I thought about was how pretty the hourses tails looked when they ran... not much of a gambler), went and saw goats, sheep, and HUGE cows, and made our way through the flower exhibit. Through all the music, noise, mooing, baaaaing, neighing, Cairo slept, and slept, and slept. So, though she went to the fair, she didn't actually see it. Following the fair, we went to Grandma and Grandpa Tipple's for some dinner.

p.s. Cairo is starting to sleep more during the night! YES! I can actually get 6 hours of sleep!

Cairo's New Babysitter

This is long......

Yesterday, we had another weight check-up at the doctor's office. Cairo is now 9 lb 15 oz, 1 pound heavier than laat week. It was funny, here she is at 7 weeks and a little 2 week old baby at the doctor's office was bigger than her. According to the growth chart, Cairo is in the 25th percentile for length ang weight. She is a "little bit", which has become her nickname with her dad and I.

Cairo likes to start each day by joining Erik and I in bed and then falling asleep again for a few hours. Every morning I get out od bed and leave a happily sprawled-out and sleep baby behind. I really enjoy this cuddle time in the morning.

After we all got up, Cairo and I spent the morning shopping with Grandma Jill, Aunt Kyoko, and Cousin Mei. For the outting, Cairo put on her newest outfit from Auntie Heather- a pink sleeper with frogs on it and cute forggy feet.

When we got home, Cairo was fast asleep in her carseat (as always) and I decided to take advantage of the nice warm sunshine and play with the dogs in the backyard. So that I could keep an eye on her and keep her out of the way of her dad and Grandpa Lee (who are working on putting new baseboards and moulding throughout the house), I took her out with me. As usual, Sienna had a one trrack mind- "ball, ball, ball! Did someone say ball?" Sienna went on her merry way and chased the ball I was throwing. Guinness however, was too preoccupied by his new baby (yes, that would be Cairo). He kept a good eye on her while I was playing with Sienna (don't worry, Nana, I kept a good eye on him!). He is so funny with her. He is very gentle and the opposite of his pushy self. When she would stir and make a little crying noise he would give her hand a little kiss and then move back or her would nudge her foot. He didn't seem to think that she should be left on her own (though I was 20 feet away). What a good little babysitter!

Sienna- taking a break from playing ball.

When Guinness isn't babysitting, though, he enjoys to sunbath...

7 weeks

We haven't been up to much lately... just eating, sleeping, and playing. That seems to take up the majority of the time. Only two more weeks and we will be heading back down to Southern California. We are trying to make the best of the time we have left... the summer has really flown by!

To take advantage of of the beautiful weather today, Cairo and I went on two good walks. Cairo fell right to sleep on both the walks... though the road was VERY rough on our second walk and her cheeks were jiggling on overtime.

The last week has brought Cairo additional pudge. I previously said that she was probably going to take after her daddy- long and lean. I might have spoken too soon... I better give it a few more weeks. We did, though, get a good picture of her first bit of cleavage. I better watch the clothes I put her in... I wouldn't want the baby boys to get the wrong idea!

Attached to mom via a baby carrier and asleep at the dining room table at dinner... my, my, what big hands you have Cairo!

Cairo scooted extra close to her toy in the crib. She spent quite a while just staring and smiling at her bright colored toy.

Looking intently at her Auntie Katie-She looks kind of like a turtle.

Bigger and Stronger

Cairo is eating, eating, eating... and she is growing, growing, growing. As of today, she has officially outgrown some of her sleepers. She has grown about 3 inches in length since she was born. She isn't getting very thick, though. I think that she will end up long and lean like her dad instead of a chucky blob like her mom.

Here are a few of pictures. She is liking to sit up like a big girl and she is growing into her carseat.

6 weeks

Six weeks down and all is well. (The above picture is Cairo sleeping in my lap while I am writing this.)

Cairo spent some time playing on her blanket in the family room this morning. She was all smiles and coos. I took some pictures of her while having floor time and I got some funny smiling faces. See how chubby her cheeks are getting?

Cairo has graduated from her bassinet to her big girl crib. She is a mover and the bassinet was becoming too restrictive. Her hand were constantly bashing against the sides of it. At the moment we don't have a bumper-pad and we are going to need to get one. This morning when Erik went to get her up she was on her side, her face smooshed against the side railing and her feet were through the slats... nothing dangerous, but it may have been a little uncomfortable. She moved quite a distance from the spot Erik put her. On her mat this morning, she aloso scooted herself around a lot. We are definitely going to have to keep a much closer eye on her and wherever it is that we set her down.

Since Cairo is becoming a lot more aware of her surroundings we set up her bouncy chair with the vibration mode and the attached arch of visuals and play toys. Cairo was in a trance watching the fish move around yesterday.

Oh, and Cairo insisted that I buy this bib at the store because she wanted to tell the world that she loves her grandpas.
