Cairo's Birthday Party... in Bayside...

Today, family and friends came over for a BBQ to help us celebrate Cairo's birthday. We had burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, bubbles, presents, ice cream cake, and nice weather. Although the the main part of the BBQ took place during Cairo's typical nap time, Cairo was a trooper and only got a little fussy towards the end. Happy Birthday Cairo and may there be many more fun and exciting years to come.

Cairo playing in her new wagon with toys.

Bubbles everywhere (though I think mommy and Guinness had the most fun with them)!

Mei and Cairo checking up on the party in the backyard.

Grandma Jill and Grandpa Lee gave Cairo this kitty. Mei got a similar stuffed baby for her birthday, too. Mei's baby was named June (ha ha), so keeping with the play on names we called Cairo's kitty Alexandria or Alex for short (not to be mistaken for little "Der").

The loving and proud parents.

Aside from Mommy and Daddy, there is no one Cairo loves better than her silly Aunt Kyoko!!!

Cairo Turns One!

Can you believe it? My little baby turned one yesterday! What an amazing year this has been. What is more amazing is how much Cairo has changed. I am excited to see her grow and bloom into the amazing little girl I know she will be.

Here is Cairo in her new set of wheels! We traveled all over our backyard having some fun adventures. Cairo can't wait to take Cousin Mei for a ride!

Cairo spent a great day at home for most of her birthday. She played outside with her mommy (that's me!), daddy, and dogs. We ran a few errands with Grandma Jill to get ready for her party (she got to pick toys out when we were at Target). For dinner Cairo had a very special birthday blueberry pancake which brought together her current two most favorite things. Dinner was followed by presents and a great summer thunderstorm. Here are a few pictures of Cairo throughout the day...

Cairo's latest love is to go out and play ball with Sienna. It consists of Cairo saying her two favorite words- "Dog-dog" and "ball". She sees Sienna and immediately says ball until Sienna brings the ball over and then Cairo tries to throw it for her.

Look at those LONG legs!

Getting into Mommy's purse and trying to write a check... other than the fact that the pen was upside-down, she held the pen nicely.

Opening presents...

Cairo loved her new clothes so much that she gave then a big hug.

Check out Cairo's hair!

Cairo is slowly growing some hair. It is coming in thick, but it still doesn't have much length. A few days ago Aunt Kyoko gave us a little rubberband to use on Cairo's hair. I was able to get it up and into a little ponytail on top of her head, but all it wanted to do was stick straight up!

Father of the Year...

And the father of the year goes to Erik!!!!... for successfully putting together Cairo's birthday present from her Grandma and Grandpa Biggle (a new wagon) and not waiting until the last minute.

Father's Day

For Father's Day Erik spent a successful day working in the yard (what a Dad!) and then we headed down to Ferndale to have Father's Day dinner with Grandpa Tipple, Grandpa Dedini (Lee), and the rest of the family. Here are a few family pics...

Almost a year

This past weekend, we celebrated Cairo's upcoming birthday with friends and family
down in the LA area. We had a nice BBQ and Erik made cupcakes for dessert. Cairo got her first taste of something sweet. She didn't know what to do with her cupcake at first. She just sat there and looked at it. It wasn't until we broke it up into biteable pieces that she finally started to eat it... and here I was rooting for her to do a face plant into it...

Cairo got some very nice presents which included a new summer wardrobe, a few toys, and some really fun books.

Visiting the Doctors'

Last week Cairo went and visited several doctors.

Since day one, Cairo's hips have clicked. As a precaution, Erik and I were referred to a children's orthopedist to make sure everything was a-okay. Cairo had x-rays done and all was clear. She is just VERY flexible (future ballerina or gymnast?). Cairo also paid a visit to the dentist to get her two teeth checked out. Grandma, who works at the dentist office, held Cairo during the examination. To get a good view of her entire mouth, Grandma had to enable the much loved "upside down baby" routine. Cairo does a good job brushing her teeth (morning and night) and had healthy mouth of gums. Her third tooth (upper left) is going to pop through any day now.

Cairo made one more visit- to the pediatrician. She has had a cough on and off for a few weeks. Erik took her in to get that looked at, as well as her one year check-up (the shots will have to wait until after her first birthday and we are up north). To our surprise, Cairo had the start of an ear infection. So, Cairo has very happily been taking her pink bubble gum medicine twice a day and seems to be healing well. While we were there, we discovered that we have a baby who is starting to get really long and not so heavy. At almost one year, Cairo is 20 pounds, 4 ounces (50th percentile) and almost 30 inches long (80th percentile). Her head is huge and still up in the 90th percentile.... maybe that is why balancing isn't coming easy to her. She is still a ways from walking.
