Playing in the Backyard

Nice weather and longer days brings us all outdoors.  Whether we go for a walk, garden, play in the sand box, play in the kiddie pool, or just run around the kids get a chance to soak up some Vitamin D and we get a chance to help them use up their energy.

We recently signed Cairo up for soccer and have been using some of our outside time to do drills to better develop her soccer skills.

I am not sure whether Cairo is hiding or just taking a break.

Sometimes Jonah likes to try it out, too... and sometimes he likes to just help arrange the cones.

A few days later we had an impromptu pool time.  The nice thing about being a toddler is that when you want to swim and a swimsuit is not near, it's not a problem.

Triathlon

One of the girls at work convinced myself and another five of the girls I work with to try something fun and new and get into back into shape- a mini triathlon at the Rose Bowl.  The race was a 5 K run, 15 K bike ride, and 150 m swim.  The run was fine, the biking was even better, but the swimming kicked my butt.  Overall, I did well and was able to easily complete it.  The motivation to make it through the race kept me running and biking on a regular basis and put me back into the shape (or better) I was in before I had Cairo.

Aside from dropping a clothing size, the best thing to come out of this race is my new road bike.  It sure is zippy!  For the first time in my life I have a bike that really fits me and I am in heaven.  I have taken to riding to and from work and am looking forward to the rides I will be able to take this summer up in beautiful Arcata.

Let's go fly a kite...

Last summer my mom got Cairo a little kite.  We don't have very many windy days here in Monrovia, but on the few that we have had, we've taken Cairo outside to try and fly her very small and very squirrely kite.  The only problem with the kite is that it doesn't really fly.  It gets about 3-4 feet off the ground, flies in small chaotic loops, and dives for the ground.  For the time being Cairo enjoys running back and forth with it in an attempt to gain liftoff.

Cairo- getting tangled in the line-

Look closely and you will see the highest elevation the kite was able to make.

...and still at it....

Okay, got it.

Now, run fast and get that kite in the sky!

Keep going.

Jonah wants to fly a kite, too.

Jonah at 9 months

Jonah had hit and passed his 9 month marker. With the 9 month milestone comes another visit to the doctor. Here are Jonah's stats:
  • length- 27 1/2 in.- 75%
  • weight- 19lb 7 oz- 75%
  • head size- 97% (for his big brains)
He has four teeth- two on the top and two on the bottom. His top two teeth are large and are showing signs of the Biggle gap (the gap between the front teeth that is very prominent on my dad's side of the family). He is still scooting around and doesn't show any signs of getting up on his knees. Though he is a grump much of the time, I was able to catch some pictures of him on one of his happy moments.

Mickey Mouse Ears

Cairo and Jonah have Mickey Mouse ears from Disneyland. For some reason, Cairo decided that both she and Jonah needed to wear them for breakfast... not sure why, but Jonah didn't mind as long as he could still get to his food.
