Pancakes and Eggs

Weekend breakfasts are big around here. During the week oatmeal, cereal, and toast are norm, but on the weekends we splurge with bacon or sausage, hashbrowns, eggs or various kinds, biscuits, pancakes, fruit, etc. (I should say that waffles can be found any morning of the week on Erik's plate.) On this particular day, Jonah got to move on from baby cereal and prunes and enjoy the eggs and pancakes with the rest of us. There was no surprise that they were a hit, though he did give us some funny looks.

The Nummy Crawl

Jonah likes food. He especially likes to feed himself. The problem we keep running into is keeping his tray stocked with food. One minute the tray is full and, literally, the next minute it is cleared off. On this day Cairo and I found a creative solution to get Jonah to slow down on eating the snacks- the nummy trail.

You think this is going to stop me- ha!

Next!

Finishing off the last nummy!

President's Day Weekend

Over President's Day weekend Katie and Lili flew down from up north for a visit. Valentine's Day also fell on this weekend. Time flew by, but we had fun. The weekend included some shopping, the zoo, baking cookies, crawling around in diapers, flossing our teeth, and play time. The highlight of the LA zoo was probably the giraffes, at least for Cairo (and me, too).

Here are some pictures of our visit:

Cairo and Grammy making yummy heart sugar cookies. Cairo's job was to add sprinkles.

Of course the chef must taste test the cookies.

Lili and Jonah at chow time.

Is it just my kids or are all kids happier when their clothes are removed?
Lili and Jonah Bear- only 2 weeks apart.

One of Cairo's favorite past times- flossing. I don't think that I am going to have to worry about her dental hygiene. She chases after us with her toothbrush.

Cairo, Jonah, Erik, Lili, and Katie's first visit to the LA zoo. Cairo is checking out a sunbathing kangaroo through the fence.

Cairo's hat matches the flamingos or the "ducks" as she was calling them.
Xander and Cairo on their "best" behavior while we stopped for a snack. Can't you tell by the smile on Cairo's face that they were being perfect angels and not running wild through the tables?

The grump and I.

Yum, applesauce!

This bird is SO UGLY! Just look at its feet. What is the purpose of those HUGE feet?

The zoo's highlight. I learned some interesting facts about the spots on a giraffe and how they cool down...

Lili was so excited about the giraffes that she passed out on her mama.

You'd think that I'd have more pictures of Katie, but somehow I don't. :o( It sure is more difficult taking pictures now that I have two kids.

Great Grandma's Piano

We recently cleared out the den at my parents house and unearthed my grandma's piano. Cairo and Xander had a great time showering us with their musical talent. I wish I could say this was a short show, but it wasn't. I did find it extremely entertaining, especially when Erik went and got his earplugs. Needless to say, with both of them playing the piano and both singing different songs at the top of their lungs, this was a VERY noisy evening.

Uncle Dan's iPhone comes to visit

It's always fun when Uncle Dan comes to visit... because when Uncle Dan comes to visit his iPhone does, too. It appears that the iPhone has lots of infant and toddler friendly applications- like bubble popping, fish catching, and bug squishing. The only problem is that Uncle Dan only has one! Either the kids will have to share or Uncle Danny needs to get another one...
Danny knows the way into all babies hearts... letting them play with little things that light up and make sound.

Who's this guy?

Oh, it's that guy with the fun toy. I think that I like him!

Jonah, do you want to play with the phone?

Okay, just grab it from me.

Sike! In your dreams!

You've got to love big sisters! Just wait, Cairo, he'll be bigger than you some day.

Stare

Since day one, Jonah had his round eyes wide open and he would just stare. Eight months later, things haven't really changed. In this particular incident, we know that Jonah was tired; but he also stares like this when new people are around. Can you say "Mr. Personality?"

Yum! Ice Cream!

Just like mom, Cairo likes to make sure that she finishes off every little bit of her ice cream... thank goodness she's got a long tongue!

8 months

Fish-lips- he held this pose for a few minutes:

I can't believe 8 months has already passed since Jonah Bear joined our family. I am definitely enjoying each of his developmental stages more than I did with Cairo. I am not impatient for him to make his next step, rather I kind of dread him growing up. I miss that cute little snuggely Cairo I once had and I know I will miss the times I have with him as well. I won't miss, however, getting up every night to feed him. He started out a really good sleeper and then he decided to be like dad- "Sleep, who needs it!" Oh, to sleep a solid night's sleep again!

As expected with his age, Jonah plays and interacts with everything around him. He spends a lot of time talking. His favorite words are "Da-da" and "Gung-gung." In fact, he says "gung-gung" so much I just call him Gung-y. We are working on the "ma" sound, but haven't made much progress.

Jonah is making progress in other areas of his life. He is eating big boy food, he punched through his two top front teeth, and he is scooting and rolling everywhere. Jonah definitely knows who he knows and who he doesn't... and I am still the love of his life. He reaches for me and throws a little tantrum if I ignore him, which I can assure you doesn't happen often.

Here are a few other tid-bits:
-Erik and I are pretty sure that Jonah's future ambition is to be a ball (due to the fact that he's round and rolls everywhere), but we know that there is still plenty of time for him to decided for sure.
-No one makes Jonah smile or laugh faster than his sister. He especially gets a kick when she trips or gets stuck somewhere.
-He is still a grump and is suspicious of people around him.
-He HATES green beans, but chows down on everything else as long as it is warmed up.
-He drinks from a sippy cup like a champ, conquered it on the first try.
-He is starting to catch up in size with his Cousin Xander, only 10 months his senior... I think his head is already bigger.
-His hair is growing straight out (like his dad's) and is the same color as Cairo's.
-After much questioning about his flexibility (or lack thereof), we were pleasantly surprised to see that he could, indeed, get his feet into his mouth.
-Socks refuse to stay on his feet.
-At 8 months, he is starting to grow out of his 12 month clothing.
-He screeches like a woman and farts like a man :o)
