Moving onto Big Boy Food

Jonah has moved on to big boy food. After a few months of pureed food, Jonah is now ready for more of a challenge. I first noticed that he was ready for something a little more advanced when he would mimic my chewing motions during dinner. Then, he began to grab for out food. So, we started him off on the same hard solids as Cairo- what we like to call nummies.
Jonah started with nummies split into little pieces. Less than a day later he had not only moved on to whole pieces, but he was trying to feed himself. It only took a few days for Jonah to conquer the art of feeding himself nummies. Now, more nummies make it into his mouth and less end up in his lap. Jonah can really put them away. One minute his tray is full of them, the next minute they are gone. It's a good thing we have Cairo around, she makes sure his tray is nice and stocked with them.
Due to her sensitive gag reflex, it took Cairo a while to get the hang of eating solid food. Jonah, however, has taken to it easily. After nummies, the next challenge was bananas. A slippery endeavour, but being one of his favorite foods, very worthwhile. Then there were carrots...

Here is a video of Jonah eating his various foods. The one thing the pictures can't show is the noise Jonah makes when he is really enjoying his food.

Since Jonah does have a huge love for nummies, I set up a trail of nummies to get him to scoot forward. It worked, but it took a while because he stopped to enjoy each one.

Ice Skating

Cairo went ice skating for the very first time. The Leadership class at my school went on an outing to the ice skating rink and needed a few people to help drive. I volunteered to go and Cairo came along. Cairo and I ice skated for about an hour. She loved it. The faster we went, the better. She would giggle and squeal each time I took her into a little spin. I had to lean over and hold her up while we were on the ice. For a while, though, I did get some relief from a little "ice-walker." By the time we got off the ice, my back was killing me. It was worth it... especially with all those smiles and squeals I got.

Ta-Ta vs. Jonah Bear

For a while now, Heather (aka Ta-ta) had been Jonah's arch-nemesis. If Heather held him, he cried. If she looked at him, he cried... or stared at her with a blank, unblinking expression for minutes on end.
I find the whole situation rather funny, though I don't think that Heather would agree. Heather and I have a lot of similarities, so I would have thought that he would be more taken with her (especially since I am his most favorite person in the world).

Of course, Heather hasn't given up and has persevered. For obvious reasons, Heather is starting to grow on him...

"Take my picture, Mommy!"

Everytime I get the camera out lately Cairo is always insisting on me taking a picture of her. Of course when I want her to get her picture taken she is anything but helpful.

"Take my picture, Mommy! Oh, wait. I'm not ready."
"Okay, take one now."
"Wait, I will do a good one this time."
"Okay, Mommy, just one more."

With each passing day, Cairo is reminding me more and more of me.

Her latest picture pose is this very fake smile. I just hope she gets over this one before kindergarten starts!

Hanging' with Bapa

Living with Grammy and Bapa has its perks... like having someone always ready to play with you! Jonah and Bapa often spend time together after we get home from work- playing with toys and talking.

Jonah has been teaching Bapa how to play with toys-
... and Jonah has even been working on teaching Bapa how to crawl. Good job, Jonah! It looks like Bapa's getting the hang of it.

New Year's

For New Year's eve we had family and friends over for cheese fondue. Erik made the fondue, as well as prepared bread, meat, and apples to dip into it. We all sat around our new kotatsu table that Erik put together using an old coffee table and a heating element Nick and Kyoko brought back with them from Japan. The kotatsu table was something Erik and I discovered when visiting Nick and Kyoko in the middle of the winter four years ago. It is a heated table with a blanket over it. You tuck your legs underneath it and keep nice and toasty warm.

Jonah got a chance to play with Lili, only two weeks his senior, and Cairo spent some time with her Grandpa Lee watching 101 Dalmations.

I didn't mean to stay up until midnight, but I did. Unfortunately for me, though, Jonah wanted to start the new year with a bang.... at 2:30 am. Needless to say, I started the new year tired!

(Thanks for the pictures Katie B! :o)
